Homemade almond milk is in my opinion the easiest thing to make and it is much better for you than the store bought kind. Store bought milks include ingredients like carrageenan, a thickener used to preserve types of drinks and food. It has been suggested that it can cause greater stress on your digestive system and cause inflammation. Plus if you buy any flavoured milks they include a huge amount of added sugar, up to 13 grams per cup which is just nuts.

In turn making your own milk at home is a better alternative to buying because you know exactly what is going into it! Plus if you make it weekly instead of buying at the store, you will save money in the long run too.

Tip: I suggest buying almonds in bulk if you have a bulk store near you. This way you can grab seeds and nuts for cheaper thus making your milk even more affordable.

This milk has a nice hint of vanilla and is sweetened with dates which makes it a perfect pair with breakfast. I like to add it to my over night oats, half and half with water in hot oatmeal, its beautiful in pancakes and also great as a base in your hot chocolates or any fancy lattes you may make.

Easy 3 Ingredient Almond Milk

Prep Time: 10 minutes Total Time: 10 minutes

Author: Ashley Proulx Servings: 3-4  Keeps for 4 days in the fridge Freezer friendly

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup almonds (soaked overnight or in really hot water for 1 hour)

  • 1 pitted date

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 4 cups filtered water (can add less water to make it thicker)

  • Optional: small pinch of cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Place almonds in a bowl and completely submerge them in water. Cover the bowl up with a plate and let soak over night. (can do this same method with hot water for 1 hour instead)

  2. Drain the water from the almonds and add to a blender with the date, vanilla and water. Blend till completely mixed and creamy. (about 1-2 minutes depending on power of your blender)

  3. Place a nut milk bag in a big bowl and strain, squeezing all the liquid out (cheesecloth will also work, just fold it 3-4 times to make it thicker)

  4. Pour the milk into a glass container or mason jars and keep in fridge! Enjoy,
